One of my intentions for starting this blog was to write something once a week, whether I feel like it or not. Now I’m a big advocate in listening to your body and saying no lots when you have too much on your plate. However, when it comes to writing it is too easy to rely on flashes of inspiration which to be honest just never come consistently or at the right time. So despite my lack of inspiration, I am going to share with you a few things that are a part of my routine at the moment that I am loving.

  1. DIY lavender spray.

This stuff is amazing. Some people think that lavender is a smell for old ladies but those people are WRONG.

I mixed water, vodka (you need it for some scientific reason that I have forgotten) and lavender essential oil and poured into a spray bottle. I use this in my room, particularly on my pillow before I go to bed and I love it. I am training my brain to recognise the smell of lavender as a signal to go to sleep.

2. Coconut oil hair mask.

Lots of people bang on about coconut oil being the absolute bees knees as a super health food and whatnot. I can’t attest to it making you lose weight or anything but my goodness it works wonders on dry hair. I smoosh some up with some tea tree oil and smear it on my hair and voila, you have a hair mask. I leave it on for an hour or so and then wash my hair twice (it is necessary to get it out) and then I am good to go. I have been doing this maybe every other week and my hair feels fantastic.

3. Line-a-day journal.

Speaking of being consistent, I love my journal for the reason that it doesn’t ask too much of me. All I have to do is write one line every day. It’s pretty cool because there is enough space in it for five years so when I get back to where I started I will begin writing underneath my first entry and see what I was up to at the same time a year earlier.

4. Home-made pesto

This is my favourite thing to have in the fridge at the moment so here is my recipe.

  • A handful or two of herbs and sun-dried tomatoes ( you can just use herbs though)
  • A glug or two of oil
  • Some nuts and/or seeds
  • A spoon of nutritional yeast (or cheese)
  • A squeeze of something citrusy
  • A spoon of something sweet
  • Salt and pepper. Lots.

The recipe is vague because you can’t go too wrong. Just taste it and you can always add more of stuff is it doesn’t look or taste right. I love it because it makes plain meals taste special and is even a meal in itself, just stir into some pasta. It means I never have to throw out herbs because they have gone off so it is a zero-waste win!

5. Smoothies

I am having a smoothie revival. I think because we have had some properly hot weather I haven’t felt I could stomach porridge or toast. I have two combos on the go.

  1. Peanut butter, banana, oats, *chia seeds, cinnamon, **almond milk: simple, filling and delicious
  2. Banana, blueberries, spinach, *chia seeds, ginger, **almond milk.

*Chia seeds may seem like a pretentious addition and they do nothing for the flavour but they are great addition for calcium, protein, fat, and fibre which are all great things to have in your breakfast.

** Or whatever milk floats your boat.

So there you have it, a super random post but life is bit crazy at the moment so that’s just the way it goes. Let me know if you give any of these a try

Peace and love badasses
